Freshman Engineering Department

The Freshman Engineering Department includes the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and Management studies. The department is headed by Dr.M.Kalyana Chakravarthy, Associate Professor of Chemistry. Each discipline is monitored by Coordinators. The Department offers courses in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, English, Management, and Open Electives in various semesters of engineering branches. The departments under FED also offer courses at post-graduate level. The third-year soft skills course helps the students to perform effectively during the placements. Business Economics and Management studies are in the curriculum of final year.

The department is constituted with 47 teaching faculty, 31 of whom hold doctoral degrees. The remaining faculty members are enrolled in Ph.D programmes at various universities. The department managed UGC-funded research projects of 11.8 lacs, and a MODROBS lab for the chemistry discipline was developed with funding from AICTE worth 12.0 lacs

The department has several labs that are well-equipped as a part of the curriculum as well as created project labs and language labs where students work on their B.Tech projects to address societal issues and improve their communication skills. Accuracy in grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary are further ways that language lab attempts to uphold high linguistic proficiency. The department's academic members are actively engaged in research and have published articles in numerous reputable national and international journals. In order to engage in multidisciplinary studies, they work with engineering departments. They also serve as co-guides, helping students with their project work.
